If you fancy spending your school-break vacation in a sun-soaked destination, then there’s undoubtedly nowhere better than Southern Spain. While the Costa del Sol is famed for its glorious golden beaches, there are a plethora of things to do and see with the kids if you’re willing. From thrilling water rides and slides to a variety of wild beasties, there’s plenty of options, and you can tailor your itinerary to suit all members of the family. Check out my top five fun-packed kids activities below:
Waterparks
The Costa del Sol is home to some fabulous waterparks where the whole family can have a fantastic time in complete safety. Aqualand waterpark, located in Torremolinos, is the largest waterpark on the Costa del Sol and loaded with fun activities. For the adrenaline seekers, the 22-meter-high kamikaze slide will have your hair standing on end. For a more laid-back vibe, you can relax in the gigantic Jacuzzi or enjoy a swim in the 1,440-square-meter pool.
To the west of the Costa Del Sol lies Bahia Park in Algeciras offering a great variety of attractions suitable for all ages. The hugely popular “Jurassic River” with its moving Dinosaurs is a real prehistoric water adventure. There’s space for everyone in the giant Jacuzzi, famed for being the biggest in Southern Spain. To avoid the chaos and big queues during the summer months, go on a weekday before noon.
Amusement parks
Tivoli World situated in the heart of Benalmadena is the largest park for family entertainment on the Costa del Sol. This amusement park is a stunning combination of a beautiful tropical garden, exciting fairgrounds rides, illuminated fountains, and much more. With over 300 rides, some of the best flamenco shows, plus some fantastic music concerts, it’s never a dull day in Tivoli World. A magic place that the whole family will enjoy.
Adventure parks
Aventura Amazonia Marbella is one of the leading theme parks on the Costa del Sol. Located in Elviria, 500m from the beach, the park has 6 Adventure Circuits and includes the longest treetop zipline in Andalusia, with a length of 240m. This treetop adventure oozes fun and excitement from crossing hanging bridges to dangling hundreds of feet off the ground on a zip line. It’s a thrilling experience for anyone brave enough. The MiniKids area offers adventure challenges tailored to kids between the ages of 4 and 7. The park is open all year round and completely safe for kids.
Paintball
Paintball as a family is possible and open to everyone over the age of 8. It is an adrenaline-pumping, fast-paced, outdoor activity that is super engaging, and most importantly, great fun. There are many paintball centres spread across the Costa del Sol, but paintball Estepona is a cut above the rest thanks to some great courses, different battle games and top-class facilities. There are five fantastic courses to choose from with games tailored to your needs.
Zoo
If animals interest your kids, then a day at the Zoo gives them an excellent opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the cutest and furry animals on the planet. Zoos are fascinating places and provide unique learning opportunities for kids allowing them to observe these magnificent creatures.
The pick of the bunch is Selwo Adventure Park in Estepona. A sprawling animal park with 4×4 safari tours and plenty of walking trails. Encounter over 200 animals from the four corners of the world in a semi-safari setting, a great day out for the entire family.
If your looking for something a bit different and not your typical Zoo experience, then visit Castellar Zoo near Sotogrande. This rescue sanctuary for animals opened it’s doors to the public back in early 2000 and has been gaining in popularity ever since. The Zoo encourages children to meet and interact with some fantastic animals like baby lions, monkeys, and honey bears. It is an incredible experience but don’t worry; it’s incredibly safe, trained animal handlers are by your side at all times.
